Silver Super Titanium™
- Refined silver case and bracelet
- Structural colour dial through slitted plates
- Rounded octagonal case, integrated bracelet
Fifty years ago CITIZEN asked a question no watchmaker had answered: could light alone run a watch? In 1976 the world's first analogue light-powered watch gave the answer. Eco-Drive has been refining it ever since.
Eco-Drive PHOTON takes its form from the history of science itself — from the double-slit experiment, the demonstration that first revealed the dual nature of light. Two metal dial plates, cut with ripple-like slits and layered one over the other, let you watch light pass into the movement. The function of Eco-Drive, made visible at a glance.
Beneath the slits lies a structural colour film — a surface whose microscopic structures produce colour by interference rather than by ink. Tilt the watch and the hues shift and travel, never settling on one reading.
Slits are cut into the dial cover as well, so the layers overlap in three dimensions and throw interference fringes across the dial. It is the most complex dial construction CITIZEN has built, and it exists for a reason: form following function, in a watch that runs on light.
Each watch carries the Eco-Drive 50th Anniversary logo and its own limited-edition number on the case back.
The next generation of Eco-Drive. Cal. E036 drives heavier hands despite its slimness, and runs for approximately 365 days on a single full charge.
No battery to replace. Any light will do — sunlight, or the faint light of a room. Fifty years of refinement, in a movement built for the next fifty.
Case and bracelet are Super Titanium™ — at least five times harder than stainless steel, light on the wrist and kind to the skin.
The rounded octagonal case runs seamlessly into the bracelet, a single enveloping form. Turn the watch over and the case back carries the Eco-Drive 50th Anniversary logo alongside your own edition number.
CITIZEN's surface-hardened titanium — at least five times harder than stainless steel, and markedly lighter.
Titanium carbide on the 53W; DLC and amber yellow on the 59X. Hardness up to 2,300 HV, gold colour that holds.
Anti-reflective coated, so the dial reads clearly at any angle.
Hands and indices stay legible long after the light has gone.
Used for selected dial components.
A special presentation box carrying the slit motif of the dial.

The presentation box is finished with the same slit pattern that defines the dial, the 50th Anniversary mark set into the lid. Everything about this edition is made to be kept.

Eco-Drive is CITIZEN's proprietary technology that powers watches using any natural or artificial light source, eliminating the need to replace batteries.
Super Titanium™ is CITIZEN's proprietary technology treating solid titanium with surface hardening; it is at least five times harder than stainless steel.
Structural colour is produced by microscopic structures in the ink layer reflecting light, not by pigment.
